Comskip with Beyond TV
I know Beyond TV already has their commercial detection feature, SmartSkip, but I’m always looking to improve my Beyond TV experience. After reading other peoples’ possitive impressions about Comskip in various online forums I decided to see how it compares to SmartSkip.
Installing it was easy enough. I followed the directions in this Snapstream knowledgebase article, and used the batch file found in this forum post. I tried to use DirMon, but I couldn’t get it to run Comskip properly.
So far Comskip is definitely faster than SmartSkip, and has been pretty accurate. We’ll see how it goes over the next few days.
I also considered using ShowAnalyzer, but it does not support transport stream files, which is the format Beyond TV uses to record high definition shows. I’ve noticed that the latest ShowAnalyzer beta supports transport streams, so I may have to check that out once it makes it to an official release.
