Snapstream’s Firefly Mini gets some love

MythTV and TiVo Series 3 Comparison: Battle of Open Source and Proprietary DVRs – Part 2: DVR playground

One of the more popular remotes is called the SnapStream Firefly Mini PC Remote and runs $28.95 including the IR Receiver. While not a bad remote, the Firefly Mini PC Remote is not nearly as good as the Series 3 Remote.

While not exactly a glowing comment I’d interpret this as a compliment for the remote since the author could have chosen any other PC-based remote (ex. Streamzap). In the Mini’s defense it’s not meant to be a “be-all” remote. It’s merely an alternative to the original RF-based Firefly remote for folks who need IR remote codes to control their HTPC-based setup, such as myself. I programmed the Mini’s remote codes into my more usable Harmony universal remote, which controls my entire home theater.
