Trying Zoom Player (again)

Zoom Player

I use Beyond Media to playback and view all the music, photos, and videos I have stored on my home server. I primarily use the DVD Library plugin to play my movie collection. I’ve been using the integrated player in Beyond Media, but it’s pretty basic and lacks some features like resuming playback where you left off. I tried having Beyond Media launch my movies in Zoom Player awhile ago, but really didn’t like it for some reason. I just installed the latest trial version of Zoom Player Pro, and so far so good. Here’s the tweeks that were necessary for me:

  1. Set Zoom Player as the player in Beyond Media for DVDs: From DVD Library go to: Options > DVD Library Options > Player Options > Edit Player (for DVDs). Select “Custom” for the Player option. Select the Zoom Player executable under “Program” (default location is “C:\Program Files\Zoom Player\zplayer.exe”). Set the following as the arguments: /F /PLAY “{0}\VIDEO_TS.ifo”. That will launch Zoom Player in fullscreen and start the selected movie automatically, assuming you rip your DVDs as VOB files.
  2. Change the Firefly remote‘s default Zoom Player profile so the next/previous chapter, menu, and exit buttons work properly. Go to “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SnapStream\Firefly\Profiles” and create a backup of the Zoom Player file (mine is “ZoomPlayer-Inmatrix-3.3.xml”). I just open the file in Notepad, then rename it with a .bak extention. Next, open the original Zoom Player profile file. Change the “SkipForward”, “SkipBack”, “Menu”, and “Exit” action tags to look like this:

    <Actions Button=”Menu” Description=”Title Menu”>
    <KeyAction Keys=”‘” ActivationState=”DownRepeat” />
    </Actions>
    <Actions Button=”SkipForward” Description=”Next Chapter”>
    <KeyAction Keys=”]” ActivationState=”DownRepeat” />
    </Actions>
    <Actions Button=”SkipBack” Description=”Previous Chapter”>
    <KeyAction Keys=”[” ActivationState=”DownRepeat” />
    </Actions>
    <Actions Button=”Exit” Description=”Exit Player”>
    <KeyAction Keys=”%x” ActivationState=”DownRepeat” />
    </Actions>

    Save the file, then exit and restart the Firefly application.

  1. Let me know if you run into any issues with Zoom Player. I’ve been using it with the Beyond Media DVD Library plugin for quite a while now and I love it. Light years better than the built-in Beyond Media DVD Player.

  2. Terrific work! This is the kind of information that are supposed to be shared around the net.
    Shame on Google for not positioning this submit higher!
    Come on over and talk over with my website . Thanks =)
